Wednesday Wisdom #8

With Christmas less than a week away, we're all beginning to experience the highs and lows of the festive season.

The Christmas holidays is something that I cherish and I sometimes get lost in the midst of all the commercialism. What I mean by that is I always worry about what gift I'm going to get for x,y and z. Instead we should stop, and spend time with those who matter, because that is what Christmas is really about. Gifts are great but that is not what Christmas is about, and we live in a society where every holiday is another way for big businesses to get money.

Spending money on loved ones is thoughtful. Spending time with loved ones is divine. - Antony Douglas Williams

If you think about it this way, the time we spend on faffing about Christmas gifts could be spent with our loved ones. During this time of the year friends and family from uni come back to visit. Cousins, Aunts and Uncles also come to visit and you more or less have a full house. Christmas only happens once a year and it should be enjoyed properly. Technology is amazing but sometimes put the IPhone down and replace it with a mince pie! Christmas films and board games always brings the family unit together, and it is moment like those that we look back on with fondness. At the end of the day a mobile phone is always replaceable and memories aren't.

If you're working on Christmas eve like me then try and make the most of it. If your workplace will allow it, play Christmas songs and wear a Christmas hat to get you into the Christmas spirit.

Even if you don't celebrate Christmas just use this time so spend with  your friends and family, because the holidays are about having fun and getting together.

Merry Christmas x
